About

What Is This Blog About?

While watching mainstream news outlets I have observed a few things.  News outlets either cover reports and stories out of context to further their individual political propaganda or increase their individual network’s ratings; perhaps even both. While others attempt to downplay a particular story or point of view. Many simply try to keep up with what is popular and recent in order to appear competent in front of their competitors and more so in the eyes of the public.

The ability for a news outlet to reach anywhere between a thousand to a million viewers within minutes is monumental.  This ability allows any given news outlet the privilege to inform and shape public opinion on various policy, political, social, and cultural issues.  The shaping of public opinion translates into power because of the influence it can have on the voting behavior of individuals. Biased reporting is problematic for a nation established on the idea of a participatory democracy that values honesty, truthfulness, fairness, and above all, accountability and transparency. Without credible news sources many people are led to believe sensational, biased, and often untrue reporting.

The purpose of this blog, therefore, is to create a platform focused on voicing the unsaid from the unheard and by disrupting normative discourses. News coverage should neither be a finite binary affair nor a game in which the loudest one in the room has to be right.  Reporting should be inclusive, accurate, transparent, and it should continue to challenge our normative ways of thinking as well as the way we see the world and those around us.
